The concept of SitPrep - short for Situational Preparation - was born in a Babels workshop ’quality of interpretation in the social forums’ at the Babels Brussels meeting (July 2004). It entails preparing the interpreter for simultaneous interpretation in the Social Forum context through the use of a DVD containing speeches in different languages recorded from previous Social Forums. In the first place, the objective was to see if the non experienced interpreters were able to make it for the Social Forum. Although artificial, this creates a situation as close as possible to how interpretation is experienced in a Social Forum, allowing the interpreter to practice and get used to the likely conditions. This is a report from coordinators involved in the preparation of London ESF on the sitprep in order to explain how this very innovative tool has been used and how it could be used in the future. […]
1- Physical Distribution Points You will find hereafter a list per country of Babels volunteers who agreed on becoming Physical Contact Point in order for you to get the SitPrep materials. Please note that these persons accept to be part of a volunteer based sharing distribution system. If you want to participate and help us share this work, please tell when asking for the materials in order for them to notice babels-tech to add you to this list. There can be of course several Physical Distribution Point in the same city. If no one exists in your country or in your city please contact the one nearest you or contact babels-tech in order to get either the CD or the DVD or both. All this distribution system is purely on voluntary basis and on the money and means of the participants. (Babels-tech is only a group of few people who volunteered to help Babels electronic tools to work.). Its success lays on us all, together. The more we are, the less it is for each one of us. People accepting to be Physical Distribution Points, agreed on:
2- Description of the CD and the DVD Contents
I- Product Sound+Transcript
II- Product Video+Transcript 33%
3- List of the Physical Distribution Points.
