"Make Art" Festival

April 2-8 2007, Poitiers (France)
(Date: 23 February 2007)

Here’s a new project for April 2007!

Make Art is an international festival which will deal with the relationship between open-source and open-source software in electronic arts. The festival will host concerts, talks, exhibitions and workshops.

Here are a few pictures/videos of last’ year’s festival: http://makeart.goto10.org/2006

Make Art 2007 will take place in Poitiers (France), from Monday 2 to Sunday 8 April 2007. The conferences will take place :
- Tue, Wed and Thurs evening (April 3-5)
- Sat and Sun afternoon (April 7-8)

All events will take place at the same venue. Conferences are scheduled to last 1 hour.

The speakers are essentially from Europe, but some Canadian artists are also expected.

The topics discussed will talk about art / sociology / socio-economics / computer sciences / philosophy.

Beyond the purely technical aspect of the open source world, there are social and economic issues at sake for the counterculture. A culture born with the technological boom that better understands the ins and outs of electronic power struggles in post-industrial societies.

At a time when intellectual property is fiercely debated, while some people cling on to their little bits of territory, others have chosen to share knowledge, art and collective work.

Make Art constitutes a tool for reflecting on the propagation of free software in artistic creation and we want it to be a view onto the social, political and economic myths and realities linked to this phenomenon.

Of course, housing, food and transport costs will be covered by the organizers for the selected volunteer interpreters.

The default languages will be English or French. We also need people speaking Spanish, Dutch and German.
