Programme Department Volunteer: Arabic Speaker
To start immediately. Based in London

War on Want was founded in 1951 to tackle the root causes of poverty. Its purpose is to support organisations in Africa, Asia and Latin America working to empower and promote the economic, social, political, civil and cultural rights of the poor. War on Want campaigns in the UK and Europe on issues such as debt, the arms trade and human rights violations, which are significant obstacles to combating world poverty.

The War on Want Programmes Department works overseas focussing on four thematic programme areas: Sweatshops and Plantations; Informal Economy; Conflict Zones and Food Justice.

We are currently looking for a volunteer to assist with our Conflict Zone projects in Arabic speaking countries. This will involve the translation of project and research reports both from Arabic into English and vice versa. It will also involve communicating with our partner organisations in the Middle East. Fluency in Arabic is essential. The chosen candidate will need to be available to come in to the office 1-2 days per week, though some of the work can be carried out from home if more convenient. We are looking for a minimum commitment of 3 months.

The post would suit someone with experience in translation and an interest in international development.

Lunch and travel expenses will be covered.

To apply please send a CV and covering letter explaining why you would like to volunteer for War on Want and what you can bring to the organisation to Anna Smith email .
