Julie's proposal:

Introduction of the participants
Revision of the Agenda

Workshop 1: Learning the methodology of the lexicons through practice

I suggest that we split into thematic groups (i.e war and peace, fair trade, etc) and work on doing a lexicon per group. The idea is to be practicing together to see what are our doubts, suggestions of improvement. Access to one lab-top per group should be feasible if everyone can bring his/her, let's see if we can manage access to the internet in the venue. Maybe we could have a look with Jesus at the recordings from previous social forums that are transcripted as a basis for building the lexicon.

Workshop 2: Testing the different programmes for the lexicons

Debate on how the Lexicon Group want to work on next projects (FSmed in Spain, ESF in Greece)

Publication?

Question : peut-on chercher des fonds? si, oui, comment?

Robin's email :

Hello everyone

Being almost completely new to all of this I just want to ask a few
questions and make a few comments. I've looked at the minutes from Berlin on
the Tiki ages ago, and these are a few points I wanted to put forward as a
small part of an agenda.

Please read, digest and regurgitate or delete if necessary. This is hurried
as I will be out of circulation from Saturday until Grenada itself. Sorry
this is only in English.

Not sure whether this was to go to Sofia or should have gone straight on to
the meetings list.

FACILITIES
- Is anyone demoing software (if so who, and what is it)
- How many networked computers do we need for the meeting - platform(s) and
browsers required?

BERLIN
- Any questions/points arising from Berlin which need dealing with
immediately

LEGACY SYSTEM / OTHER SYSTEMS:
- Any further comments - positive or negative about the old system
- Has anybody looked at any web sites of interest that could be relevant to
our system

USERS:
Overview of the users
- Who are the users?
- What type of activity will they be doing
- Type of connectivity - Do most have broadband connectivity - If you are
expecting people to upload entries and spend time online then then people
using dialup will be at a big disadvantage (unlike people who stick a
spreadsheet on the website.) Maybe it isn't a problem?

WEB CONTENT

- Who are the groups submitting the data (how should it be done)
- What are the plans to gather more data from which subject areas to turn
into lexicons
- What is the data being submitted
- Who decides what goes on to the site * is there an editorial 'policy' or
'practice' or 'house style ...agh!)

*Note that this includes the web links (an aside - note on the existing
lexicon site look under Mondialisation -> Economie et Finance -> (and under
On the Web) Hypertextual Finance Glossary we have a page which looks very
commercial with the page headed 'Sponsored Links' (which could suggest that
Babels received money for the links) and one particular link at
http://www.americanunsecured.com/ re finance (Babels would have to make sure
that web links are maintained and prefaced with a note saying that the
external sites do not necessarily represent the views of Babels - unless I
missed it)

SPECING THE PROJECT
We need a full specification of the job so that people can see any gaps in
the project or any ambiguities or assumptions people have made

TOOLS

Database
- Issues include
Security - at both ends at the server/database end and also at the user end
(epecially in light of the wiki)
Multiple users
Saving information
Backing up information
Suitability of database over wiki and excel documents
Multiple language use
Fields which are needed
Uploading/updating procedures
Feasibility of Glossaries
Problems/Issues regarding how the lexicon for each language will be built
Internal Search Engines
Sorting data
Layouts
Exporting data
Subject Categories

* Issues Stefan raised about the feasibility of 'contextualisation' are
interesting and need to be discussed fully

RESOURCES:
What IT tools do we have
What people resources do we have, what teams of people do we have
what do people want to do - how much time do they have
How to communicate - are we unhappy/happy/ecstatic/very depressed/confused
about how we are communicating and will it work in future

MAINTENANCE
Often overlooked initially but maintenance for all parts of the project and
not just the IT side

DEADLINES:
What are the deadlines we are going to set and who will be setting them
(this is very important re co-ordination of the project )

Hasta Grenada

Robin
