Initial aims
Beginning of April 2004: International council for the World Social Forum, in Passegnano sul Trasimeno, Italy. Phumi asks us to participate in the Social Forum of the Americas (us = LJ, SM, SP, Andrea G having already left by then). Problem: we are already overloaded with work, the WSF looks like its going to be a major undertaking and with no local coordinations in Latin America it’s difficult to envisage an event like this calmly.
We have very (...)

ASF report: Steph
15 April 2005 -
Group of facilitators
1 September 2005The Babels international meeting will be largely self-organized, just as Babels itself is largely a self-organized, horizontal network. However, to deal with the logistical details of the event, there is a need for a small group of facilitators who will make the event physically possible. This group will support the self-organized process by providing help and information and by promoting links between the different participants and topics discussed.
Disclaimer: The group of facilitators (...) -

14 September 2008Basic introduction to the ALIS console for interpreters.
The console has two surfaces, a vertical one with rows of red and green lights, and a horizontal one with a series of knobs and buttons. We shall call the vertical surface the ROOM PANEL (because it gives information about all the booths in your room), and the horizontal surface the BOOTH PANEL (with it you control your own headsets and microphone).

At the top right hand corner of the panel there is a red light (...) -

ASF Report: Robert
27 October 2004Robert’s input, answering Steph’s questions:
STEPH: Can you tell us what you did during the 3/4 months ahead of the forum ?
ROBERT: Mainly, I ranted about the lack of information on the actual demand we were to face at the ASF in terms of interpreters/equipment. This information was given to us, and still somewhat vaguely, less than one month from the ASF starting date. At the Babels’coordinators meeting in Brussels, we even considered dropping out of the event entirely, but decided to (...) -

This document symbolizes the end of this preparation period. It lays the ground for a new one involving many more people. The two main ideas developed in the report are:

Esf08AccommodationReportAppendix1
Monday 15 Sept. Babels Letter to the NOC
Dear friends,
The situation is desperate and you seem to have singularly failed in your promise to organize and provide solidarity accommodation for the ESF volunteers. Today, Monday 15th, we still do not know where more than 100 volunteers will sleep starting *tomorrow*. What are we supposed to tell (...) -
