The 1st and the 2nd reports of Babels-uk informed on the criteria we used for selecting interpreters. After Athens ESF, it is time for Babels-uk to publish a summary of the composition of the English booth. Coordinators from Babels-uk have been following the criteria and selection protocol described in the first two reports. It is worth noting however, that due to last minute cancellation of a few previously selected interpreters, we have had to select a small number of interpreters outside of the criteria mentioned in the previous reports. Indeed, 11 interpreters have been selected even if they have "only" French, Spanish, or German as a passive language, despite our initial willingness to favour interpreters with more than one passive language given the complexity of athens ESF linguistic needs. 3rd report: Composition of the English booth for the European Social Forum in Athens – May 2006 The composition of the English booth goes as follow: 90 interpreters in the English booth. Level of interpretation: Professional interpreters: 26 Experienced interpreters: 44 Occasional interpreters: 19 First experience interpreters: 1 Languages: Number of interpreters with French (passive or active): Number of interpreters with Spanish (passive or active): 51 Number of interpreters with German (passive or active): Number of interpreters with Italian (passive or active): 19 Number of interpreters with Portuguese (passive or active): 10 Number of interpreters with Russian (passive or active): Number of interpreters with Greek (passive or active): Number of interpreters with Catalan (passive or active): Number of interpreters with Dutch (passive or active): Number of interpreters with Arabic (passive or active): Number of interpreters with Polish (passive or active): Number of interpreters with Bulgarian (passive or active): 2 Number of interpreters with Slovak (passive or active): Number of interpreters with Romanian (passive or active): 1 Number of interpreters with Czech (passive or active): Number of interpreters with Chinese (passive or active): Number of interpreters with Wolof (passive or active): Number of interpreters with Hausa (passive or active): Number of interpreters with Swedish (passive or active): Number of interpreters with Byelorussian (passive or active): 1 Number of interpreters with Macedonian (passive or active): 1 Babels-uk If there is anything you want to comment, don’t hesitate to write on the Forum (section of the English Booth for Athens ESF): click here |
